This the latest version of a book cover I’m currently working on. It’s probably not the absolute final version that will actually go to “print” (this book is going to be published digitally) but it’s pretty close. The only relevant question is this: if you saw this book in the Science Fiction section of your local bookstore (and assuming you were looking for a sci/fi book to read) would you want to check it out? I think I would.
I tried my hand at a Jamie Jones style piece. This one is a book cover for A Game of Thrones, the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire series. HBO is making a pretty fantastic TV adaptation of the series. I’m a sucker for high production values. As for this piece, I feel like certain parts are successful, but don’t necessarily go together visually. Needs more work.
This is a cover illustration I did for Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O’Brien, a Newbery Medal winning children’s book from 1971. It was a great book. I also loved the animated movie. This scene is where Mrs. Frisby, the little mouse in the red cape, visits the Great Owl to ask his advice.
